How to Dispose of Knives Legally in Glasgow

Knife amnesty bins in Glasgow

Police Scotland operates knife amnesty bins at multiple locations across Glasgow. You can deposit any knife — kitchen, hunting, fishing, decorative — anonymously, no questions asked. Locations include:

Kitchen and household knives

For everyday kitchen knives that just need replacing rather than surrendering:

1. Wrap the blade thoroughly in newspaper or thick cardboard
2. Tape it securely so the blade can't cut through
3. Label it clearly: "Knife — for disposal"
4. Take to a Glasgow Household Waste Recycling Centre — wrapped knives go in the metal recycling bay
5. Not the wheelie bin — refuse staff get cut by unwrapped blades

Legal restrictions

Some knives are illegal to own in Scotland regardless of disposal intent:
